The Uptown Brass will present an eclectic, entertaining, and virtuosic program featuring songs of joy from around the world inspired by dance rhythms of many cultures. The program will include the music of Bernstein, Piazzolla, and Paquito D’ Rivera as well as American spirituals, brand new works by award winning composer Jack Stamp, and holiday favorites.

Piano Trios

Violinist James Garlick and cellist Scott Lykins join forces with pianist Mary Jo Gothmann for this season closing program of piano trios. Featured on this program is a trio by Brahms and a set of pieces from “Paul Klee: Painted Songs” by local composer Jonathan Posthuma which will include projections fo specific paintings accompanied by the music.

Osmo and Erin

Minnesota Orchestra Music Director Osmo Vänskä and Concertmaster Erin Keefe return to Joya for a varied concert of music for clarinet, violin and piano. This special program will include music of Sibelius, Beethoven, Schubert, Arutiunian, Minnesota composer Eric King, and an original piece by Osmo. This is a rare opportunity to hear this husband/wife duo playing wonderful chamber music.

Anthony Ross, Principal Cellist of the Minnesota Orchestra and Joya favorite returns for an afternoon of cello and piano music including Mendelssohn’s Sonata in D major, White Tulips by Minnesota composer Steven Heitzeg, Variations on a Theme of Rossini by Martinu and more. Pianist and Joya founder and artistic director, Mary Jo Gothmann will join Anthony for this beautiful program.

One piano, four hands

One piano, four hands, featuring pianists Timothy Lovelace and Mary Jo Gothmann. Playing piano duets was a primary source of home entertainment in the 18th and 19th centuries resulting in a wealth of wonderful repertoire.

You won’t want to miss this program of rarely heard works by Beethoven, Barber, Dvorak, and Poulenc.

Mothers and Daughters, FREE Concert

Mothers and Daughters, a FREE concert, will feature Minnesota Orchestra violinist Cathy Schubilske and her daughter Clara. Clara is a violin performance major at Northwestern University in Chicago and will be a junior this fall. Joining Cathy and Clara will be Mary Jo Gothmann on piano and her daughter cellist, Amelia Podolny. Amelia will be starting her freshman year at St. Olaf this fall. The program will include the Sonata for Violin and Piano by Richard Strauss, Tzigane by Ravel, the first movement of the Elgar Cello Concerto and more!

The concert will be preceded by a free light supper at 6:00pm in the fellowship hall at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Please rsvp to the dinner by emailing joyachambermusic@gmail.com
